Refund and Withdrawal Policies
Non-Credit Courses and Programs
Students will not be eligible for a refund without notifying the Department of Professional Studies, via email, of their withdrawal from a course. A member of our staff will provide confirmation of withdrawal requests via email. Convenience fees, registration fees, and miscellaneous fees are nonrefundable. Transaction fees charged by TouchNet are nonrefundable in the event of course cancellation. Refunds for non-credit courses and workshops are as follows:
- Prior to the first session of any course/workshop: 100% refund
- Before the third session of a course/workshop with eight (8) or more sessions: 75% refund. NO REFUND THEREAFTER.
- After one (1) or two (2) sessions of a course/workshop with three to six sessions: 50% refund. NO REFUND THEREAFTER.
- NO REFUND for dropping a one (1) or two (2) session course/workshop after the first session has met.
- Online courses with no set schedule are assumed to follow a Tuesday/Thursday 6:00 pm schedule for refund policy purposes.
To drop a credit-bearing course students must notify the Department of Professional Studies via email. Note: Non-attendance of classes and verbal messages to faculty or staff do not constitute official notification. Failure to provide notice in writing will result in a grade of "NF." Further, you will be responsible for all tuition charges.
Refunds for Fall and Spring credit courses are as follows:
- Prior to the second session of a credit bearing course 100% Tuition Refund
- After the second session and prior to the third session of a credit bearing course 75% Tuition Refund.
- After the third session and prior to the fourth session of a credit bearing course 50% Tuition Refund. No refund thereafter.

At the present time, Emerson College is not authorized to issue I-20’s for study in its Professional Studies and Special Programs (PSSP) courses. Depending on an international student’s immigration status and personal circumstances, enrollment in a PSSP course may be permissible or may result in an immigration status violation. Maintaining valid immigration status while in the United States is the responsibility of the individual, not Emerson College. PSSP staff cannot advise individuals about their immigration status. If you have any questions about the requirements for maintenance of your specific immigration status, please contact the U.S. Consulate in your home country prior to enrolling in a PSSP program.

School Cancellations and Delayed Openings
In the event the College must close or delay opening due to severe weather conditions, an announcement will be made by 6:00 AM. for day classes and 3:00 p.m. for evening classes.
During an emergency closing or delayed opening, check the Emerson website (main page) or call the main number at (617)824-8500 and select option 2 for more information.
Announcements concerning emergency closings or delayed openings will also be posted on the following media outlets:
WRKO 680 AM, WBZ 1030 AM, WERS 88.9 FM (radio), and WBZ Channel 4, WCVB Channel 5, WHDH Channel 7, WBTS Channel 10 (most providers), and WFXT Channel 25.
As an Emerson student, you will need to have an ECnet account, which will grant you access to the college's computer network. An ECnet username and password will enable you to use computers in Emerson's labs, access web-based course management pages (such as Canvas), and eCommon, where you can view your student information and course grades.
All Emerson students, staff, and faculty are required to have an Emerson ID card. This card grants you access to campus buildings and services, such as the Emerson College library. If you are a first-time student, please pickup your official Emerson ID card BEFORE your first class at the ID Office in the Piano Row Building (150 Boylston St.) If you are a returning student, you do not need a new ID card. The ID card you have will be reactivated for this semester.
