Announcing the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts

Emerson College is proud to announce that the Department of Visual and Media Arts will become the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts effective September 1, 2025.

This change will not disrupt students' course of study. Major requirements, courses, and academic programs previously housed in the Department of Visual and Media Arts will transition into the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts. All websites and documents from the Department of Visual and Media Arts will be transferred to the new School and updated in the coming months.

About the Department

Housed in the School of the Arts, the Department of Visual and Media Arts offers four undergraduate programs and graduate programs in Film and Media Art and Writing for Film and Television.

Visual and Media Arts faculty members are teachers, doers, and industry players. Students will also learn from and collaborate with talented classmates, and benefit from studying in a city that ranks among the top five US media markets. Boston’s prominence as an increasingly popular location for major feature film shoots provides limitless opportunities for internships, jobs, and freelance assignments. The area also boasts dozens of theaters, television and radio stations, film festivals, and art museums and galleries that offer outlets for students’ work.

Our graduates benefit from Emerson’s extensive alumni network, which spans every medium—and every market—in the entertainment industry.
