Julie A. Hennrikus has been appointed Executive Director of StageSource, The Greater Boston Theatre Alliance, a non-profit service organization that provides leadership and services to advance the art of theatre in the Greater Boston area. The organization seeks to unite theatre artists, theatre companies, and related organizations in vision and goals that inspire and empower the community to realize its greatest artistic potential.
“In her six years at Emerson, Julie has transformed Emerson Stage and Performing Arts, making us more media savvy, socially connected, and influential in the community.”
Hennrikus joined Emerson College in 2004 as the General Manager and Director of Marketing for Emerson Stage, the producing arm of the Department of Performing Arts. She has developed curriculum and will continue to teach in the field of arts management at the college.
“In her six years at Emerson, Julie has transformed Emerson Stage and Performing Arts, making us more media savvy, socially connected, and influential in the community. Her leadership and mentoring of students, as well as her thoughtful perspective in season planning, has helped shape every aspect of life in this department,” said Performing Arts Chair, Melia Bensussen.
“Her grace, intelligence and devotion to the theatre have influenced more than the students who've been touched by her: she has impacted all who have connected with her at the College. She will be sorely missed, but we are excited about the possibilities for collaboration with her in her new and most thrilling position.”
Beginning her career in Boston’s small commercial theaters in box office and house management capacities, she has also worked in several exhibition box offices at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
In 1991 she was hired by Harvard University to create a box office for Sanders Theatre, an 1166 seat concert hall in Memorial Hall. After a renovation of Memorial Hall she was promoted to Program Manager, scheduling Sanders Theatre, Annenberg Hall, Lowell Hall and 16 other spaces. She continued to oversee the box office operations, which was renamed the Harvard Box Office, and tickets for most student events on campus.
Hennrikus has a BS from Boston University in Mass Communication, a Graduate Certificate in Management from Radcliffe College and a Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University.
