Emerson College, the Boston Herald, and Fox 25 announced today that they’ve joined forces to deliver a live-streamed moderated discussion with the four candidates for governor of Massachusetts. Geared toward college students and young voters across Massachusetts, RACE FOR GOVERNOR 2010: A Campus Forum will take place on the Emerson campus Friday, October 15 from noon until 1:00 p.m.; Fox 25 Anchor and Emerson College alumna Maria Stephanos will moderate.
The debate will live-stream on the Herald’s website.
College students and young voters, as well as the general public, can watch the debate on the web and participate via a live Twitter feed—sharing comments and asking questions in real time. A student panel of four Emerson undergraduates at the event will monitor the Twitter feed and select questions to ask the candidates.
The event itself will be broadcast over the web from Emerson College’s 200-seat Semel Theater in front of a live audience composed largely of Emerson students.
“We’re thrilled to produce RACE FOR GOVERNOR 2010 in collaboration with Emerson College, a school renowned worldwide for its journalism and communication programs and media savvy, and Fox 25, known for their outstanding broadcast coverage of local and political news,” said Boston Herald Publisher Patrick J. Purcell Jr. “I hope this event will raise awareness about state issues among the large college student population in Massachusetts and encourage them to cast their vote on November 2.”
“The RACE FOR GOVERNOR event is a wonderful opportunity for our students, and for young people across the Commonwealth, to connect with the candidates,” said Emerson College President Jacqueline Liebergott. “The forum offers them a chance to witness the power of social media and communication, and to engage actively in the election process,” she said.
A focus group made up of Emerson students and faculty, and Boston Herald media reporter Jessica Heslam, will provide ongoing commentary online during the one-hour forum. Bostonherald.com will also solicit questions from the live online audience and Herald reporters will also blog live.
