The Department of Journalism

Journalism Resources

The Journalism Television and Multimedia Facility (JTMF) is designed for television, radio, web and multimedia instruction and high-level news production. The JTMF reflects the Journalism Department’s effort to bridge the gap between the broadcast and print/multi-media majors, as this is the turn ‘real world’ journalism is taking.  Facility users work in a newsroom designed for multimedia reporting, editing and production. Desks are designed in clusters of four to easily facilitate teams in which one member might edit video with Avid Newscutter, another build graphics using Photoshop/Illustrator, a third design a web site with Dreamweaver/Flash and a fourth write a script using AP/ENPS, all in tandem. Facility users are exposed to linear and Avid non-linear editing systems, as well as an automated control room in studio. In a nearby lab, students also use Adobe Audition to edit audio or they can use a broadcast quality audio voice-over booth for higher level productions. The entire facility is equipped with state of the art technology to allow high-end television, multimedia and web production in keeping with the department’s emphasis on hands-on, high-quality productions across the news media with an eye on current industry trends.

The Emerson College Journalism Television Facility is located on the 6th floor of the Walker Building, 120 Boylston Street. It is designed for instruction and high-level news production. Facility users are exposed to linear and Avid non-linear editing systems, as well as a fully-automated control room and studio.
