Although technology has revolutionized the ways in which we share and consume the news, the principles and values that govern journalism remain the same. At Emerson’s Department of Journalism, you’ll learn how to tell stories that increase public understanding and awareness, and gain the skills necessary to adapt to—and shape—this rapidly evolving field.
Combining tradition and innovation, the Department of Journalism is committed to training ethical journalists who can write compelling, original news stories—and bring those stories to life through broadcast, print, web, and multimedia platforms. As a student, you’ll gain rich experience in the field through class assignments, internships, and extracurricular activities that range from conducting on-street interviews and attending State House press conferences to providing multimedia coverage of the Emmys.
You’ll also have access to Emerson’s Journalism Television and Multimedia Facility, a state-of-the-art center for classroom instruction and network-grade news production. A dedicated faculty composed of experienced professionals from news outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, CNN, and the Washington Post will guide you—and challenge you—throughout your time at Emerson.
