Communication Disorders

One required essay

  1. Reflecting on your work, life, and educational experiences, describe how you decided to pursue a career in communication disorders/ speech-language pathology. Since we can’t interview all applicants to our program, this essay is our opportunity to get to know you. Let your personality shine through so that we are able to get a good sense of who you are.


Communication Disorders (Low-Residency for SLPAs)

Two required essays

  1. Reflecting on your work, life, and educational experiences, describe how you decided to pursue a career in communication disorders/ speech-language pathology. Since we can’t interview all applicants to our program, this essay is our opportunity to get to know you. Let your personality shine through so that we are able to get a good sense of who you are.
  2. Please also provide a brief (one paragraph) separate statement about how you will deal with the challenges of a Low-Residency program. Specifically address how you anticipate balancing the simultaneous demands of working as an SLPA and being in graduate school.

Civic Media: Art and Practice

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession. In a 750-1000 word essay please expand on the following: What experiences have led you to want to study civic media at the intersection of art and practice? How do you envision media and technology impacting civic or social life? How do you see Emerson College’s Civic Media, Art & Practice program helping you achieve your educational, civic, and/or professional goals? You are encouraged to provide examples of any creative, scholarly or other innovative work you have done in this field.

Communication Management

Two required essays

  1. Describe your career goals in the area of communication management and plans for achieving these goals. Please highlight the intellectual and personal qualifications that will enable you to be successful as a graduate student and as a communication specialist.
  2. Describe a meaningful experience you have had with learning to understand the goals, motivations, and points-of-view of an unfamiliar individual or group. How did you discover what they thought and felt? What barriers did you have to overcome and how did you do so? What insights did you gain from the experience?

Creative Writing

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession.

Global Marketing Communication and Advertising

One essay, one video, and one multimedia presentation

  1. Describe your personal and professional goals in the area of global marketing communication and tell us about your past experiences and plans for achieving these goals. Highlight the intellectual and personal qualifications, including any cross-cultural experience you have had, that will enable you to be successful as a graduate student and as a global marketing communication specialist. (800 words)

  2. Produce a video introducing yourself. Include anything about yourself that the rest of the application did not cover. Explain why you would like to join the program and how you will contribute to the international cohort experience. The video can be uploaded via Youtube or Vimeo, and the link can be pasted in a Word or PDF document and uploaded with the rest of the application. Make sure that you include your name in the video and in the document name. (5 minutes in length)

  3. In addition to the information you have provided us with so far, we invite you to tell us about yourself using a different format: a slide presentation (PowerPoint, Keynote, InDesign or similar, to be submitted in PDF format). In six slides or less, capture visually who you are.


Integrated Marketing Communication

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession.

Journalism

One required essay

  1. Why do you want to go into Journalism? Please draw on your experiences and goals in answering the question.

Media Art

Two required essays

  1. Imagine you are a critic and have to write a review of your portfolio work – discuss its inspirations and influences, its creative process and artistic goals, as well as its strengths and shortcomings.
  2. What do you see as the trajectory of your work at Emerson and beyond? What might you want to pursue as a media project at Emerson, and why?

Popular Fiction Writing and Publishing

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession. Additionally, please elaborate on your specic area(s) of writing: fantasy, mystery, young adult, new adult, steampunk, etc. (two to four pages).

Publishing and Writing

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession. Additionally, please elaborate on your specific area of interest: book publishing, electronic publishing, magazine publishing, or some other type of publishing.

Theatre Education

One required essay

  1. Explain your short-term and long-term professional goals. How will an Emerson education assist you in achieving these goals? Reflecting on any relevant work and educational experiences, describe how you would contribute to the program and to the profession.

Writing for Film and Television

One required essay: Please address the following questions in a maximum of three double-spaced pages.

  1. Why you are interested in an MFA degree in Writing for Film and Television?
  2. What do you expect from the program?
  3. How do you expect an MFA degree to advance your writing goals and interests?
  4. How long have you been writing and in what genres?
  5. What experience do you have in working independently?
