Emerson Stage is the producing organization of the Department of Performing Arts at Emerson College. The mission of Emerson Stage is:

To enhance the cultural life of Emerson College and the larger local community through the presentation of meaningful, diverse and multicultural programming that upholds high artistic standards and a commitment to open-minded cultural exchange.

The 2008/2009 season offers an exciting array of productions to showcase the talents of Emerson students and guest artists. Please check the individual show pages for more information as  we add dramaturgical notes, production photos and more information.

The season kicks off with Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan, directed by Eliot Norton winning director Carmel O'Reilly in the Semel Theater. Grad student Chris McCoy will direct Nicky Silver's Pterodactyls in the Greene Theater. Our Theater for Young Audiences piece will be The Hundred Dresses, adapted by Mary Hall Surface based on the book by Eleanor Estes. The Hundred Dresses will be directed by Bob Colby in the Cutler Majestic Theatre. The fall will conclude with the musical Little Women, music by Jason Holland, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein and book by Allan Knee, directed by Scott LaFeber in the Semel Theater.

The second half of the season starts with X Dance, featuring the choreographic work of Emerson students. The piece is artistically directed by Marlena Yannetti. Maureen Shea will be directing Much Ado About Nothing in the Semel Theater in February. NewFest 09 will feature a full production of the Rod Parker Playwriting Fellowship  winner, which will be directed by Joe Antoun.  Submissions are due by November 12. The spring musical will be The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, book by Larry L. King & Peter Masterston, music by Carol Hall and directed by Stephen Terrell.

Studio-Series-SMALLIn addition, Emerson Stage is launching a Studio Series. These performances are a wonderful opportunity to see new works and new talents in progress. Grad student Mike Truppi will present a series of Pinter pieces throughout the year as part of this exciting new series. Check the website often for new opportunities to see exciting work in progress!
