Communication Studies

Communication Studies out on the campaign trail.

Communication is central to all activity. Whether in the boardroom, electoral, advocacy, public relations or public affairs campaign, on social media, or with your family or friends, communication skills are instrumental to success. Crafting a message, and discovering the right words, and the best channel of delivery, can build issue awareness, resolve interpersonal conflicts, enhance leadership skills, and increase understanding of the rapidly changing complex world we all share. Few would dispute that communication is the most valuable force and asset within an ever changing global environment.

Communication Studies, founded in 1884 as the first department in Emerson College, engages students to appreciate application of theory and practice in leadership roles in all walks of life. From your first day at Emerson, Comm Studies students will be immersed in local, national and global projects through coursework, teamwork, internships, and co-curricular activities such as Emerson College Polling Society, Forensics, and the Communication, Politics, and Law Association. Communication students work with their counterparts in Barcelona, Mexico, Chile, as well as locally in Boston, with the Bird Street Civic Engagement Project and Eleep programs, to make a difference in their communities.
