Boston has a reputation for being one of the best walking cities in the country, and we at Emerson take full advantage of this. Because Emerson is located in the heart of downtown, most neighborhoods are an easy walk from campus. Shopping, dining and entertainment options surround the campus, and exploring the many unique areas from Chinatown and the North End (Boston's "Little Italy") to the artsy and trendy Back Bay will keep you enthralled, entertained, and engaged for months.
Public transportation around campus is easily accessible: the Green, Silver and Orange subway lines - or as we call them, "T" stops - are practically at Emerson's front door, with the Red line just a few blocks down the street. Many bus routes supplement the train lines giving our students ample options for site-seeing, working, interning, or living. In general, a fare is $1.25 each way (or you can take advantage of Emerson's semester MBTA pass program and receive an 11% discount) and will get you almost anywhere in the greater Boston area with ease. For more information on fares, schedules and maps, visit mbta.com.
Students who live off-campus after freshman year can have a car, but most students commute via the MBTA because it's easier and cheaper! However, there are several municipal parking garages and lots near the Emerson campus. If you're interested in taking a weekend excursion to one of the countless nearby New England tourist destinations, Emerson is located less than a mile from major interstates 90 and 93 and less than one mile from South Station – Boston's hub for Amtrak and bus transportation. Logan International Airport is an easy commute from campus via subway or cab. For more information on airlines and transportation to/from the airport, visit Massport:Logan.
