All campus buildings, including residence halls, are wired with high-speed Internet access, and wireless Internet access is available in many locations. Other technology services are available to students, including Web publishing and networked storage space, software workshops, and online reference guides and tutorials. Built in 1903 and now on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1,200-seat Majestic was the first Boston theatre engineered without obstructed views and designed to support sophisticated stage effects. This magnificent proscenium theatre is the main stage for Emerson's productions, and is located in the heart of Boston's Theatre District.
A clearinghouse for the equipment you will need to produce high-quality projects and complete in-depth class assignments, the Center maintains an extensive inventory of film, audio, and video equipment for student use.
Media Services houses Emerson's collection of films, videotapes, DVDs, and laserdiscs, as well as compact discs, phonotapes, slides, and multimedia. You can look up titles on the Web, drop in to look through the Center's printed catalog, or call to ask whether we have a particular title. The Center boasts a mediated classroom, video studio, conference room, and video viewing rooms, which can also generate mediographies on specific subject areas.
The newest addition (so new in fact, that it is still in the midst of construction) to the City of Boston's Theater District skyline is the Emerson College Campus Center, located at 150 Boylston St. In this hub of campus activity, you'll find meeting rooms, piano and practice rooms, a cafe, lounges, the Cultural Center, two information desks, a student clubs and organizations village, and the Dean of Students and Student Life staff. This complex will also house a gymnasium with NCAA regulation basketball and volleyball courts, the Athletic Department, and a 558-bed residence hall. This facility, affectionately called the Piano Row building opens in the fall of 2006. It will be the campus commons for the Campus on the Commons, and we can't wait to move in!
Adjacent to the historic Cutler Majestic Theatre, is the 11-story Tufte Performance and Production Center. This state-of-the-art facility houses expanded performance and rehearsal space, a theatre design/technology center, make-up lab, costume and scene shops, classrooms, and television studios with editing and control rooms. Opened in 2003, the complex is the jewel of Emerson's facilities and a shining star on the Boston arts scene.
