Our Community

Faculty & Staff

We all work to inspire students to create and communicate with depth, honesty, courage, and passion, both as professionals in their fields and as informed and articulate participants in society.

Our faculty exhibit this charge both in the classroom and the field. It's common for a faculty member to work as a marketing consultant or take a sabbatical to promote a new film. These real-world projects don't distract them from attending to the students; rather they bring up-to-the-minute career anecdotes and experience directly to the students' desktops.

Fusing a solid liberal arts education with this practical knowledge, they teach the skills necessary to cultivate outstanding professionals – the ability to inform, persuade, diagnose, and create. They prepare students to become lifelong learners in their chosen professions.

Students

Our students are hard to sum up in a few words, because they are all so unique. Some can't wait to start working with the film equipment, and others see themselves helping children who struggle with communication challenges. Some come from big cities and can't picture themselves anywhere else while others come from small towns, arriving excited (and maybe a bit nervous) about being right in the heart of Boston. Some love to be in the spotlight, and others can't imagine what makes someone walk out on stage in front of 1,200 audience members at the Majestic Theatre. Some see themselves launching their own web design business, and others hope to begin their careers at the nation's biggest marketing firms.

Of course, there are some defining characteristics that make them all Emerson students. They respect each other's differences and are able to harness each other's talents. Emerson is a community of creative people who inspire one another toward reaching both common and individual goals.

Alumni

Our students build important relationships while on campus, relationships that span a lifetime. The Emerson community extends well beyond Boston Common to many corners of the world, and creates rich social and networking opportunities for young alumni as they set out on their chosen paths.

The Alumni Relations Office plans events throughout the United States and abroad and hosts a successful Alumni Weekend event each summer.

Our Alumni Association works to connect alumni with the College and with one another through regional events, alumni chapters and an active online community. Students automatically become members upon graduating and many continue to stay involved with Emerson no matter how far the road takes them.

Parents

Emerson parents, like their children, are very involved in the Emerson College community. Parents support their student's decision to pursue his or her passion at Emerson, and they also support the College's efforts to provide the best possible education for their child. They participate in the Parents Leadership Council, support the College's parents fund, attend Family Weekend and take advantage of volunteer opportunities. Some even share their experience and expertise with students in their field. In short, parents become as involved with Emerson as their children.
