Courses in Journalism

TV News Producing

Catalog says

“This lab course gives students the real-time experience of a deadline-driven television newsroom. Students rotate through newsroom jobs such as tape editor, writer, producer, anchor, reporter and videographer. Students learn to write news scripts, edit video to tell a news story, organize and produce a newscast, coordinate video elements for a newscast and work together as a broadcast news team.”

Students say

“Simply put, the best journalism classes I have taken. While the title suggests a class solely for the production side of television news, it was actually a great culmination of many aspects of a TV newscast. Throughout the semester, my classmates and I worked as a real news team. We wrote and researched the stories, shot the video, did the interviews, and of course produced the newscast, all on a strict deadline. The class allowed us to rotate jobs and gain experience and confidence in our professional capabilities. When I leave Emerson, I'll leave not just with a degree, but with a portfolio of work I created in class, of a quality that I can be proud of.”
