Your dream. The prospect of covering the world around us — of writing "the first draft of history" — holds great appeal to you. You’re willing to do all of the hard work to make that happen.
Why Emerson? Advancements in technology and changing audience demographics are transforming journalism as we know it. Our Journalism programs help you to understand what the future holds for this field while arming you with the timeless investigative and writing skills that every journalist needs. We also challenge you to think about questions of ethics and fairness, and require that you explore the world through a broad range of liberal arts courses.
You can gain practical experience while building your portfolio through opportunities at The Berkeley Beacon (our student newspaper), JSONS (Journalism Students Online News Service), and the news programs on WEBN-TV, Emerson Independent Video, and our two radio stations. Meanwhile, the quality of our broadcast, print, and multimedia facilities rivals that of many commercial stations and publishers.
Your Emerson experience. What better location to study journalism than Emerson? We're in the heart of Boston, just steps from City Hall, the State House, and the Financial District. As the country's fifth-largest media market, Boston has dozens of television and radio stations; most offer internships to Emerson students. Our faculty includes many award-winning journalists who have worked locally as well as nationally and internationally. Drawing on their experience, your professors provide the mentorship, encouragement, and professional insight vital to your success as a journalist.
Your future. Beat reporter. News producer. Feature writer. Sports broadcaster. Political correspondent. Whatever you want to do — or even if you're not quite sure yet — Emerson's Journalism programs will help you determine your future.
