First Year Experience

Your First Year at Emerson: Boston’s historic vistas open up all around you and you begin to make new friends and create a sense of community, a home away from home. The first year of college is an exciting time, full of possibility, as new opportunities explode around you like fireworks over Boston Harbor.

At Emerson we provide a variety of programs designed to help you make the most of your first year of college. Our Residential Learning Communities bring together students, faculty, and staff around a special interest: creative writing, performance, new media, community involvement, leadership, or wellness. Space is limited in these popular programs, so be sure to turn your application in on time!

During their first year, all students participate in a First Year Seminar at the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies. There are over thirty seminars from which to choose. All of them are small in size, emphasize critical thinking, reading, and writing and are taught by leading faculty at the College. Your first year at Emerson is about making new friends, exploring a new city, and connecting academic learning and everyday life in a way that will set the tone for your college career and beyond.
