Transfer Requirements
International students have specific transferring instructions below.

1. Common Application and Emerson College Supplement
We require that the Common Application, Emerson College Supplement, and $65 application fee be submitted before we can consider you an applicant.
You can submit these forms and the application fee by creating an account on the Common Application website. By following this link, Emerson College will automatically be listed in your "My Colleges" area of the Common Application after creating an account.
2. Supporting Academic Credentials
Please include your full name and date of birth on all application materials submitted to the Admission Office.
- High school transcript or GED: A final, official high school transcript or GED, indicating your date of graduation, is required.
- College/University transcript(s): An official transcript is required from each college or university attended. Successful candidates typically have maintained a 3.0 grade point average in previous college coursework; however, individual circumstances as described by the candidate will be considered. If submitting a transcript from a university outside the United States, please view our international requirements.
- Instructor Evaluation: An evaluation or recommendation is required from someone who has taught you in a college subject. Instructor Evaluation form (PDF)
- Mid-Term Report: Includes estimated grades from your current semester. Mid-Term Report (PDF)

SAT or ACT test results: SAT code: 3367, ACT code: 1820
If applying as an international transfer student, you may be required to submit a TOEFL score or SAT score. Please review the international requirements.Test scores are not required if you will have completed one or more of the following by the time you enroll:
- Earned an associate’s degree
- At a junior level or above at your current institution (60 to 64 credits)
- Graduated from high school (or received a GED) three or more years ago
3. International Transfer Student Requirements
Domestic transfer applicants can skip this section.

High School (Secondary School) Transcript or Proof of Graduation: A final, official high school transcript or General Education Diploma indicating your date of graduation is required. All school transcripts must be in English. If the transcript is not in English, a translation must be performed by an official agency and accompanied by the original document.
Students who have graduated from a secondary school outside of the United States must complete a credential evaluation to show that your diploma is equal to a U.S. high school diploma.
National Exam results can also qualify as proof of graduation. These can include GCE/GCSE exams (O-Level and AS-level), India Secondary School Examinations, Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Exams, and CAPE I, etc.

Transcripts from universities outside the United States: The applicant must submit these to one of the recognized credentialing agencies:

Test scores and English language proficiency requirements: International Transfer applicants who have completed fewer than two years of post-secondary study in an institution that uses English as its language of instruction are required to submit scores from one of the tests listed below:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Emerson minimum requirements:
Internet-Based Test (iBT): 80
Computer-Based Test (CBT): 213
Paper-Based Test: 550 -
IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

Applicants that have completed secondary study in an institution that uses English as its language of instruction can submit either SAT or ACT test scores to fulfill the requirement. SAT code: 3367, ACT code: 1820

Test scores are not required if you will have completed one or more of the following by the time you enroll:
- Earned an associate’s degree
- At a junior level or above at your current institution (60 to 64 credits)
- Graduated from high school/secondary school (or received a General Education Diploma) three or more years ago

International Transfer Student Forms: For students attending colleges and universities within the United States. You are required to submit one copy of each form from below:
- Current F-1 student visa
- Form I-94 arrival/departure record (the small white card stapled into your passport)
- Previous Form I-20
- Transfer Verification Form
- Transferring International Student Form

I-20 for F-1 visa Student Forms: For International students who will need to receive an F-1 student visa, you will need to submit the following forms:
- International Student Contact Form
- Bank Statement (see requirements)
- Letter of Sponsorship
- Copy of Passport

3. Major- or Program-specific Requirements
Applicants for Performing Arts and Film programs are required to submit additional materials to complete their application.
Please note: The Department of Performing Arts accepts transfer applications for all programs except BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre and only for the fall term.
3. Check the Status of Your Application Credentials
After submitting your application, you will receive an email from Emerson College with an Emerson ID. You will use your Emerson ID and date of birth to log into the Application Portal. Please keep in mind that processing your supporting credentials may take up to 7 to 10 business days. Log in »
