Support Services

The Office of Career Services provides individual career advising, career education workshops, and resume critiques. The office hosts industry speakers and on-campus recruiting events like internship and career fairs. Career Services is also home to a career resource library; CareerFinder, an online database of jobs, internships, and company information; and the Emerson Career Connection, a database of alumni professionals willing to share industry information.

Library Stacks

The Emerson College Library has approximately 200,000 books and 13,000 electronic and print journals that support research in communication studies and the performing arts. The library's online catalog provides access to Emerson's collection as well as the holdings of nine other libraries through Fenway Libraries Online (FLO), an automated network of academic and special libraries in the Boston/Cambridge area. Students can also use the resources of many local libraries through Emerson's membership in the Fenway Library Consortium (FLC). Via the Massachusetts Virtual Catalog, materials from other libraries in the Commonwealth are picked up and delivered to the Emerson Library five days each week. In addition, the library subscribes to more than 90 databases including JSTOR, Project Muse, LexisNexis Academic, and Academic Search Premier. The theses of former graduate students are available in the Library, and the reference staff is available to assist you at the reference desk or by appointment.

The Center for Health and Wellness provides medical care and health and wellness education programs to meet the immediate health needs of Emerson College graduate students. Appointments for evaluation of health concerns can be scheduled Monday-Friday during the academic year. Immunization clinics are offered each semester for students needing to complete their immunization requirements. The Center is nurse-directed and staffed by nurse practitioners and a wellness educator. A consulting physician is available for urgent referrals at a practice close to campus. Graduate students who have enrolled in the College's insurance program or have paid the health fee are eligible to obtain services at the center.

The Media Services Center offers access to more than 3,000 DVDs, videotapes, and films that can be viewed in six viewing rooms. The center houses facilities for producing audio, video, and multimedia presentations, including a video studio and a nonlinear editing suite, and provides equipment for classroom presentations, such as laptops and computer projectors, mini DV camcorders, digital still cameras, and audio tape recorders.

Computer Resources. Emerson's computer labs contain more than 300 Macintosh and Windows workstations available to students, faculty, and staff. The labs feature the most recent versions of word processing, desktop publishing, digital imaging, web publishing, digital video and audio, DVD authoring, and 3D animation software. Computer labs have flatbed scanners, slide scanners, grayscale and color laser printers, photo ink-jet printers, wireless Internet access, and media presentation systems. Lab support staff are available in all lab locations to assist users and to answer questions.

All campus buildings, including residence halls, are wired with high-speed Internet access, and wireless Internet access is available in many locations. Other technology services available to students include web publishing and networked storage space, software workshops, and online reference guides and tutorials. Student computer support is available at the IT Help Desk for troubleshooting and Internet-related problems.

The Office of International Student Affairs offers an array of services including immigration advising, personal counseling, and specialized programs and events to foster social and cultural adjustment.

The Emerson College Fitness Center, managed by Fitcorp, Inc., offers state-of-the-art strength training, cardio and free weight equipment, and daily aerobic, yoga, dance, and conditioning classes. The staff also sponsors exercise and wellness programs, including stress management, sports conditioning, and nutrition.
