Graduate MFA in Writing Scholarship

Funded by an anonymous donation, this scholarship is awarded on the basis of excellence in writing to students entering or fulfilling the requirements for a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

Bookbuilders of Boston Award

This scholarship is awarded each spring to students in the Publishing and Writing Program.  Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong career interest in book publishing through past or current coursework, projects, employment, or extracurricular activities. Currently enrolled students will receive written notification about how to apply.  For further information, please contact the Graduate Program Director for the Publishing and Writing program.

Rod Parker Playwriting Award

This award was established by Emerson Overseer Rod Parker '51, H'79 to be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has exceptional playwriting talent, commitment to the writing of plays for the stage, and demonstrated financial need. The award recipient will be selected by faculty from the Department of Performing Arts and the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing.

Doriot Fellows Program

Funded by a private donation and administered by the College, this award is given to exceptional second-year graduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Students must be registered for at least 3 courses per semester. Selection is based on academic merit and financial need. Further information can be obtained from the Graduate Program Director for Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Naomi Stroh Janover Scholarship

This award was established in 1992 and funded by an endowment from the estate of Mrs. Naomi Stroh Janover. Janover Scholarships are provided for one or more second-year graduate students in Communication Disorders who wish to explore working with pre-school hearing-impaired children. The Janover Scholars are selected by the staff of the Thayer Lindsley Program. Awarded students are required to work three mornings a week in the Thayer Lindsley Program serving as mentor clinicians to first-year graduate students.

Mitzi and Mel Kutchin Scholarship for Communication Disorders

Established by a gift from Melvin and Mitzi Kutchin and awarded to an incoming graduate student in Communication Sciences & Disorders, interested in working with young children or in a school or clinic setting.

Helen Hughes Lane Scholarship in Journalism

Established by a gift from Helen Hughes Lane and awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student in Journalism.

Cecil and Helen Rose Ethics in Communication Scholarship

Established by a gift from Emerson alumna and Trustee Helen Rose, the Cecil and Helen Rose Ethics in Communication Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student who demonstrates a career interest that furthers the importance of ethics in effective and responsible communication. This scholarship is awarded on a rotational basis among departments. Students are invited to apply by their Department Chair.

For the academic year 2007-2008, the scholarship will be awarded to someone in the Communication Studies department (with special interest in Political Communication).

Cecil and Helen Rose Ethics in Communication Award

Established by a gift from Emerson alumna and Trustee Helen Rose, the Cecil and Helen Rose Ethics in Communication Award is given to a graduate student who has written an outstanding research paper or creative project that highlights the important role of ethics in effective and responsible communication. The award is shared on a rotating basis among departments.

Dr. Marion A. Ryan Scholarship

Established by a gift from Zarie Noorjanian '30 in honor of her former Milford High School English teacher, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate student in communication on the basis of high academic standing and financial need.
