Graduate Program Director for Global Marketing Communication & Advertising (GMCA) and Associate Professor
With an engineering degree in information and media technology, an MFA in graphic and film design, and the experience of starting two successful international marketing communication agencies, Thomas Vogel brings valuable experience to Emerson. He has both an academic and professional background in advertising, direct marketing, filmmaking, and Internet-based communication.
“My broad expertise in customer experience allows me to teach the importance of identifying the customer or target group first, then designing the right communication messages, and choosing the appropriate media channels to reach the communication goals.”
Thomas notes the GMCA program's value give the current technologically driven global marketplace.
“I see a tremendous increase in global advertising and communication campaigns. In these complicated and challenging markets, a global company's success will increasingly depend on the overall quality of its communication, especially the content and the integration of the appropriate media channels.”
Thomas' current research includes examining the impact and influence of design within electronic and interactive media, such as the Internet, and the specific aspects of human-computer interaction, graphical user interfaces, and customer experiences. He is also studying the correlation between cost of design and its return on investment in interactive communication in global environments.
