    An Emerson alumna who was close friends with Matthew Shepard—the gay man brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998 due to his sexual orientation, which sparked nationwide hate crime legislation—is releasing a documentary, Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine, on Friday, February 13, in Los Angeles.

    The documentary film Vapor Trail (Clark) by Associate Professor John Gianvito of Visual and Media Arts was screened on February 1 at the prestigious Tate Modern Museum in London. It was one of only five films selected to be included in the exhibition “Conflict. Time. Photography.” which explores the legacy of war as rendered by artists through photography.
