The Scene and Prop Production Shop, housed in the Paramount Center, serves several purposes. It is a classroom for instruction in scenery construction, props stagecraft, and scene painting. It is a laboratory workshop for students working on production projects, and it is used to support technical operations of the Paramount Center and ArtsEmerson.
The Shop consists of several areas: the Scene Construction Shop, which contains a wide array of tools and equipment for working with wood, metals, fabrics and plastics; the Paint Shop, which includes a large paint floor that allows painting of full-stage backdrops for any of the College’s theaters; the Props Workroom, which has specialized equipment and ventilation; the Loading Dock, which has off-street access for two tractor-trailers; and the Shop Office and Technical Production Office, which are equipped with several CAD workstations and a large format printer.
