Performance Spaces & Facilities

The College's major performance spaces include:

Production & Performance Opportunities

Emerson Stage is the department’s production unit. It presents many student-created events annually in a variety of theatrical genres, directed by faculty, professional guest artists, and students. Through productions at the Cutler Majestic Theatre, the Paramount Center, and the Tufte Center, students are exposed to a wide range of performance and production opportunities.

Additional workshop projects offer student actors, dancers, directors, designers, and choreographers the chance to create their own work. In the spring, the Emerson Playwrights Festival, also known as NewFest, is mounted through the generosity of Emerson alumnus Rod Parker ’52. The festival includes workshop productions and staged readings of new work written by students and directed by faculty and guest professionals.

Students also have the opportunity to act in student-produced films, participate in student performance organizations, and intern at one of Boston's many theater companies.

ArtsEmerson

ArtsEmerson: The World on Stage is committed to bringing the world’s legendary and pioneering artists to Emerson College, presenting work from this country and abroad you’ve never had an opportunity to see—at least, not without first heading to the airport.

Based in the heart of Boston’s historic Theatre District, on the Emerson College campus, ArtsEmerson programs include culturally enriching theater, film, and music. To further engage the Emerson College community, much of the work of ArtsEmerson will evolve out of periodic, multi-year residencies designed to facilitate the creation of new work and to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and the community to engage in the creative process.
