Emerson Forensics Sweeps Sweepstakes

On October 16 - 17, the Emerson Forensics team travelled to Allentown, PA for the first tournament of the year, The SNAFU Swing at Cedar Crest College. They faced off with teams that placed in the top 10 at Nationals last year, including: George Mason, Seton Hall, and Lafayette. The team had several finalists including Corey Efron taking 6th in Extemporaneous and 1st in Impromptu and newcomer Sophie Meuch taking 6th in Poetry. Tiernan Cahill took 1st place in Debate and in fact, Emerson debators took the top 3 spots, with Sarah Betancourt placing 3rd and Felix Grygoreciwicz placing 2nd. Emerson Forensics took 6th place in team sweepstakes.
On October 22 - 23, the team made the long trek across the common for the Suffolk University Fall Classic Tournament. They had 18 breaks to finals and 8 people qualified for nationals this spring. The team placed 2nd in Debate Sweepstakes points and took home for the 2nd year in a row, the first place team sweepstakes award.
The next tournament takes place on November 6 at St. Anslem's College in Manchester, NH.

Dr. Angela N. Hosek and her colleague Dr. Rebecca DiVerniero received the Top Paper Award (out of 155 papers submitted) for their project titled, "Twitter as a Classroom Tool: Exploring the Use, Benefits, and Downfalls from the Perspectives of Instructors and Students," from the Human Communication and Technology Division. Dr. Hosek was also on the Top Panel for the Basic Course Division. Both took place at the National Communication Association Annual Meeting in November.
