Lacerte Family Writing & Academic Resource Center

Peer Tutoring & Study Support

In addition to writing support, the Lacerte Family Writing and Academic Resource Center offers content-based peer tutoring and individualized sessions on study strategies. These services are free of charge and available to all students.

Peer Tutoring Program

The WARC hires undergraduate and graduate peer tutors to assist students with the content of their coursework. We seek tutors who have excelled in the course in a previous semester with the same instructor. Peer tutors can help students prepare for tests, learn study approaches, or complete projects. The tutor will not do the work for the student, but instead serve as a coach to help the student achieve his or her learning goals.

Finding a Tutor

To request a peer tutor for a specific course, students must call 617-824-7874 or visit the WARC (216 Tremont Street, 5th Floor) and fill out a Peer Tutor Request form. We cannot, however, guarantee that we will find a tutor for every request.

To find out if the WARC already has a peer tutor for a course, please call or stop by the Center. All peer tutoring is done off site, so students and tutors must arrange when and where to meet. You will bring your textbook and class notes to your meetings with peer tutors.

Instructors can request a peer tutor for their course by contacting Jodi Burrel, Assistant Director of Academic Support and Special Programs, at 617-824-7874 or

Study Strategies

In one-on-one sessions, our professional staff and prepared graduate tutors teach students strategies to become more effective and independent learners. These include time management, organization, reading comprehension, text and classroom note taking, test taking, and managing writer’s block or test anxiety.

For a private session, call 617-824-7874 and ask to make an appointment with Jodi Burrel, assistant director of academic support and special programs.
