Employment Opportunities

The WARC regularly seeks Writing Consultants, Academic Success Consultants, English Language Learning Consultants, Peer Tutors, and other student employees. Please check Workday for current openings.

Writing Consultants

Writing Consultants are graduate students in the Writing, Literature and Publishing Department who have successfully completed WR 600 Teaching College Composition. Peer Writing Consultants are undergraduates who have taken a full year of enhanced First-Year Writing Program coursework and have undergone a semester of training. Students who have successfully completed this coursework are invited to apply for open positions.

Academic Success Consultants

Academic Success Consultants are current Emerson graduate students. These consultants assist students on time management and study skills, academic support, and writing. Applicants should have tutoring or teaching experience, especially at the college level, and feel comfortable working with both graduate and undergraduate students.

English Language Learning Consultants

ELL Consultants are current Emerson graduate students. These consultants work with students who are interested in sharpening their English language skills, especially in writing. Applicants should have experience teaching or tutoring adult non-native English speakers and have proficiency in explaining English grammar rules. They work primarily with students on writing assignments but may also conduct English conversation sessions. ELL Consultants work with both graduate and undergraduate students.

The WARC seeks consultants to conduct one-on-one appointments with students enrolled in a variety of courses. Appointments may include helping students with the following:

  • Study approaches
  • Time management
  • Academic problem solving
  • English Language Learning development
  • Targeted writing support

Consultants work a set schedule (10 hours/wk), and hours are flexible within our office hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Tutoring, teaching, or coaching experience
  • A strong grasp of grammar
  • Personal maturity, patience, and a desire to help others

Peer Tutors

The WARC seeks peer tutors in a variety of courses. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Success in coursework (A/A-)
  • Personal maturity, patience, and a desire to help others
  • Ability to explain course material and help students study
