Specialized Awards Descriptions
Advisor of the Year
This award is granted to an undergraduate student organization’s advisor who has gone beyond average expectations to aid the student membership of an organization in achieving their goals during the current academic year.
Emersonian of the Year
The Emersonian of the Year award is presented annually by the Student Government Association (SGA) to a member of the Emerson community (student, faculty, staff or administrator) who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication throughout the current academic year. The Emersonian of the Year is an individual who is supportive and encouraging to the needs of the entire student body and the College.
Fraternity/Sorority Member of the Year
This award is presented to a member of the undergraduate Fraternity and Sorority Life community by the Office of Student Life and FSL Council. The selection of this award is based upon the recipient’s contributions to their fraternity or sorority and to the College community at large.
Inclusive Excellence Student Award
In keeping with Emerson’s Inclusive Excellence Initiative, the Inclusive Excellence Award honors students who have displayed a commitment to and advanced the goals of Inclusive Excellence at Emerson College through their academic and/or co-curricular work. Recipients of this award will have contributed to the College’s work in one or more of the following: Access and success; campus climate and human relations; learning and creative productivity; civic engagement; internationalization and global engagement.
Lion Pride Award
The Lion Pride Award will be awarded to an undergraduate student who has made significant and meaningful contributions to Emerson this academic year. This person is a passionate and humble leader who inspires others and instills a sense of pride in the Emerson community.
The Jennifer Stowers Quintal Visionary Award
First presented in 2003, The Jennifer Stowers Quintal Visionary Award for Distinction in Community Service and Social Advocacy honors a student who has shown a commitment to social justice. This student has demonstrated an active participation in the community, social advocacy, and the education and empowerment of their peers. The award recipient is selected by a committee appointed through the Office of Student Life.
Organization of the Year
In 1990, the Office of Student Life began acknowledging the contributions of undergraduate SGA recognized student organizations on campus. The Organization of the Year award is granted on the basis of an undergraduate club or organization’s accomplishments, volunteer work, and the group’s community based programming efforts at Emerson College during the current academic year.
Orientation Leader (OL) of the Year
The OL of the Year Award is presented annually to an undergraduate Orientation Leader who exceeded expectations and lived up the motto “OL for Life.” This person has served the orientation program this year and represented its core values at all times, serving as a role model for fellow OL’s and new students alike.
Outstanding Resident Assistant
Presented by the Office of Housing and Residence Life, the recipient of this award is a returning Resident Assistant who continually has shown outstanding effort and dedication to the position and the office. Throughout their tenure, this person has provided excellent programming, leadership skills, and acted as a positive role model to other RAs.
Student Leader of the Year
First granted in 1986 by the Office of Student Life, this award recognizes an Emerson College sophomore or junior for their continued service and contributions to the College, their leadership role in the community, and their overwhelming impact on the quality of life at Emerson College.
Sustainability Advancement Award
Emerson College sees the value of integrating sustainability theory and practices into the curriculum and all aspect of Emerson life. The Sustainability Leadership Award seeks to recognize a student, faculty or staff member who has used their position to teach, advocate, and model sustainability at Emerson to a high degree. By identifying strong leaders in sustainability we say to each other that this is the level to which we all aspire and applaud those who are out in front.
