**NOTE - The Hong Kong Baptist University program is currently suspended.

Qualified students may apply to spend either the Fall or Spring semester at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in Hong Kong, China, also known as “Hollywood East”.

In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded as a post-secondary college committed to the provision of whole-person education.  Not much later, the School of Communication was founded, and as early as the 1970s the school offered Hong Kong’s first film and video-production course, as well as classes in cinema studies, to develop students’ critical, historical and aesthetic acumen.

HKBU’s School of Communication hosts Hong Kong’s most prestigious journalism department. Like Emerson, its faculty is comprised of journalism professionals, and the journalism curriculum is skills-based, informed by the application of theory. The department has three undergraduate degree programs—International Journalism, Chinese Journalism and Financial Journalism. The International Journalism program is taught exclusively in English.

Also within the School of Communication is HKBU’s highly-regarded Academy of Film, which is dedicated to the provision of cinematic arts and creative media education and is designed to cultivate talented professionals capable of contributing to Hong Kong’s arts and cultural industries. For the last four decades, the Academy of Film has been the chief provider of cinema, television and media education in Hong Kong. It is currently Hong Kong’s flagship film school in terms of its size, breadth of programs, distinguished alumni and strong industry connections.

Emerson students enrolled at HKBU are able to take courses that meet General Education, Global Diversity and Language requirements, and may also progress towards their majors by taking courses that are approved by both the Journalism and VMA departments.

Located in the center of the Asia-Pacific region and boasting an impressive network of transportation options, Hong Kong offers students a convenient gateway into Mainland China and also to Southeast Asia, Korea and Japan. A truly international city, Hong Kong also provides students with an opportunity to develop a new, global network of friends over the course of their semester.
