If your portfolio includes electronic material, please remember to bring something with which to show it to us such as a laptop or tablet. Please put an additional copy of your résumé in your portfolio, bring your portfolio to your interview, and take it home with you when the interview is complete.
Your interview plays a primary role in your admission decision. It gives us the opportunity to meet you, discuss your portfolio with you, and evaluate your talent and potential.
We offer three types of Theatre Design/Technology Interviews, all are scheduled through the Admission Portal.
Interviews on Campus in Boston
Applicants who choose to complete an interview in Boston book themselves into a 3-hour interview period. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes prior to the interview start time. You will be directed to the check-in room where interview staff will confirm your arrival and take a photo of you. Anyone accompanying you to the interview will be directed to a separate waiting room.
The interviews will begin with a brief group discussion of our program; after which applicants will volunteer, when ready, to be brought into the interview room(s) individually. The individual component of the interview will last 20–30 minutes.
Once your interview is complete, you must check out with the interview staff in the check-in room. After that, you are free to leave. Although you might be finished early in the allotted interview period, please be prepared to stay for the full three hours.
Interviews outside of Boston
Applicants who choose to complete an in-person interview outside of Boston (in New York City, for example) book themselves into a 30-minute interview period. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes prior to the interview start time so that interview staff can confirm your arrival and take a photo of you. Once your interview is complete, you must check out with the interview staff. After that, you are free to leave.
Although our hope is that you will interview in-person, telephone interviews are available for applicants who live outside of the Northeast United States for whom the travel is impossible.
When scheduling your telephone interview, you can either select one of the 30-minute interview time slots entitled “telephone” or you can select a 3-hour interview period in Boston. If you select the 3-hour Boston interview you will be offered a choice to have that interview either in-person or by telephone; select "telephone," enter your phone number, and plan for our faculty to call you during that 3-hour interview period.
After scheduling your telephone interview time, a new “digital portfolio” link will be placed on your Application Checklist within 30 minutes. You must upload your portfolio AT LEAST 48 hours before your scheduled telephone interview.
