Welcome to the Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC). The WARC is an academic resource center dedicated to helping students become effective writers, readers, speakers and thinkers. Our mission is to provide Emerson College students and faculty with a comfortable setting that complements classroom instruction through personalized writing tutoring and other academic support services.
We invite all students—undergraduates, graduates, international students and those with special learning requirements—to the WARC for academic and writing support.
The Writing and Academic Resource Center supports students writing across the curriculum in one-to-one,hourly appointments that consist of writing tutorials, grammar support, research assistance, and citation guidance to avoid plagiarism. We also provide tailored writing support for students in the first year writing program (WP101and WP121).
The WARC also offers one-to-one study strategies and time management sessions. Additionally, students can request peer tutors for specific courses. We provide academic counseling, especially to students on academic probation, and work with students to design appropriate study plans.
Appointments
- We schedule appointments in 1-hour blocks. To make an appointment, stop by the WARC at 216 Tremont St., 5th floor or call 617-824-7874.
- Writing appointments are most successful when made in advance of when the paper is due. This allows time for revisions and review of a second draft, if the student chooses. For writing appointments, tutors and students typically read and discuss a 5-7 page paper. Longer papers may require a 1½-2-hour appointment.
- During busy times in the semester, we maintain a waiting list and contact students for canceled appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should call the WARC if they wish to cancel an appointment, allowing other students to use the time effectively.
All services are free, confidential, and available to undergraduate and graduate students.
