About Web Services

Web Services is primarily responsible for managing the critical websites www.emerson.edu, admission.emerson.edu, tour.emerson.edu and ecampus.emerson.edu as well as several others. This responsibility extends from development and design to strategy and training. In short, Web Services assists the Emerson Community in developing and refining its web presence, bridging the gap between technical innovation and institutional standards. We're your one-stop shop for nearly all your web needs.

Web Services employs a mix of third-party products and home-grown development. Our CMS (content management system) is PaperThin's CommonSpot: a robust software package that allows individual users without any HTML knowledge to make changes and send them through an approval chain. Additionally, CommonSpot allows us to bring in content from other sources (WALDO and eCampus among others). www.emerson.edu, admission.emerson.edu, www.emersonchannel.org and soon www.wers.org use CommonSpot.

eCampus is a locally developed “portal” that provides users access to a suite of applications which generates specific content. Some applications, like the Calendar are open to all Emerson users while others such as Student Employment are much more restrictive. eCampus also provides the campus with a single-sign-on solution (using either ECnet username and password OR student ID and pin) for nearly all applications on campus.

Finally Web Services conducts training in all the software used or developed. Please contact us with any queries, comments or suggestions.
