TUFTE PERFORMANCE & PRODUCTION CENTER TELEVISION STUDIOS

The Emerson College Television Studios are located in the Tufte Performance and Production Center (PPC) 10 Boylston Place, 8th Floor.

THE TEACHING FACILITY IS COMPOSED OF:

A classroom incorporated into a standard television control room. Normal video production routines and standard classroom functions take place in the same space. 18 standard academic tablet chairs fit comfortably within the control room. Location of equipment and video systems was configured for ease of teaching and movement of faculty. Lecturing, demonstration, tape viewing and critiques can easily be satisfied as well as utilizing the standard control room video equipment and production systems. A working, professional 40’ X 28’ sound-treated studio containing professional cameras, a computer-driven lighting control system and other customary items needed for live production.

The teaching complex has the following production systems and equipment:

  • Sony Audio-Follow-Video routing network
  • 4 Sony DXC-D35WS 3-CCD cameras with Fujinon 16x servo lenses (16:9 & 4:3 aspect ratio capable)
  • Vinton ProPed pedestals fitted with Vinton Vision 250 Pan/Tilt heads & QVC FDP-15-HB teleprompters
  • 2 Sony DSR-1800 digital video recorders and 2 Sony DSR-2000 digital video recorders
  • Panasonic AJ-D455 digital video recorder
  • Chryon Duet LE character generation system
  • GF224/12 Yamaha audio mixer with these accessories
  • DigiCart audio storage system
  • Sony MDS-E12 mini disc deck

  • A full complement of standard television lighting instruments and an ETC Express computer lighting system with 48 dimmer connections.

DI BONA FAMILY TELEVISION STUDIO

The 40’ X 43’ Di Bona Family Television Studio is comparable in size to network affiliated television stations and production houses. This studio has a 14’ grid, a full complement of television lighting instruments controlled by a computer lighting system with dimmers. It can be used as a sound stage for film productions, an audio recording studio and can hold several standing studio sets simultaneously. There is the capability of a Chromatte green-screen matting system and a curved hard infinity wall. Audience seating capacity is 65.

TV DI BONA CONTROL ROOM

The 25’ X 21’ Vin & Cara Di Bona control room was designed by Sony professionals in conjunction with academic and TRF specialists and creates the same environment found at advanced TV facilities in the U.S. The heart of this facility is the Sony DVS 9000 series switching system capable of complex real-time special effects and uses state of the art digital programming. Network-level Chyron Duet character generation is available, along with Chyron Aprisa still and motion image storage. The facility has a state-of-the-art audio mixing suite with the capability of advanced audio production for television and film recording.

DI BONA CONTROL ROOM A & STUDIO A

The Di Bona Family studio and control room includes the following production systems and equipment:

  • Sony DVS 9000 series switching system with three banks of mix effects and DME
  • Sony AFV routing network
  • 4 Sony DXC-D50WS 3-CCD cameras with Fujinon 16x servo lenses (16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio capable)
  • Vinton ProPed pedestals fitted with Vinton Vision 250 Pan/Tilt heads, with QVC FDP-15-HB teleprompters
  • 2 Sony DSR 1800 digital video recorders and 2 Sony DSR 2000 digital video recorders
  • Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD Recorder
  • Control Room A has a new Evertz Multiview large-screen monitoring system with 48 active inputs displays.
  • Professional Dorrough metering equipment is strategically placed within the control room and audio suite
  • Chryon Duet character generation system and an Aprisa graphic still store and motion storage system
  • Sony DMX-R100 digital audio mixer
  • DigiCart audio storage system
  • Sony MDS-E12 mini disc deck
  • Sony PCM-R500 audio digital recorder

The studios are linked to Verizon’s Television Operations Center (TVOC), the main switchpoint to all video and audio paths in and out of Boston. The studios are also interconnected with the Journalism TV Facilities, The Emerson Television Channels, The Semel Theatre, The Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gym, The Cutler Majestic Theatre, and Boston Neighborhood Network, Boston’s public access cable station.
