EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION CENTER (EDC)
The Emerson College Equipment Distribution Center (EDC) is located on the first floor of the Little Building, 80 Boylston Street and includes the Film Equipment Center and the Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Centers.
The EDC loans professional, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to faculty and students to fulfill class assignments. Professional staff and student employees are available to provide technical support when needed.
Film Equipment Center (FEC)
The Film Equipment Center (FEC) has an extensive inventory of 16mm film cameras and peripheral support gear and schedules the use of flatbed editing equipment for all film classes within the Department of Visual and Media Arts.
Inventory includes: 16mm Bolex H16, Arriflex SR-1and SR-2 and Aaton XTR professional 16mm cameras, with all equipment including hard disk drive and flash memory audio recorders for field recording applications.
Also included is a vast array of field lighting kits, light meters, tripods, and field grip gear.
The FEC schedules access to Steenbeck flatbed editing workstations and MagnaSync dubbers. AVID non-linear editing facilities are scheduled and supported by the staff in the Digital Film Lab (DFL).
The FEC also vends 35mm, 4X5 view cameras, and medium-format still photo cameras to students enrolled in photography classes, and supports the operation of the photo/darkroom lab.
FILM POST PRODUCTION
Film Post Production follows the trajectory of the film curriculum beginning with analog editing on flatbed Steenbecks and moving to non-linear digital editing on high-end Avid platforms in the Digital Film Lab. In addition, use of Mix-to-Pix “MIX A” studio is utilized for all levels, from multi-track mixing to ADR and Foley work.
The FEC schedules access to:
- Ten (10) Steenbeck flatbed editors
- Three (3) Magnasync Recorder Units
- One (1) Oxberry Animation/Title Stand
- Two (2) J-K Optical Printer Systems
- Dailies Screening facility
- Animation Lunchbox facility
Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Center (VANM)
The Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Center (VANM) provides digital still cameras; DVCProHD, DVCPro, DVCam, and Mini-DV format video camcorders; professional-level field audio recorders; studio and field microphones; lighting equipment; and other support equipment for students in the Visual and Media Arts and Journalism programs.
Inventory includes: Panasonic and JVC Mini-DV, Panasonic DVCPro and DVCProHD camcorders; Sony DVCam format DSR-PD150/170 and PDX10 camcorders; Beyer, Sennheiser, and AudioTechnica directional shotgun microphones with boom poles; flash memory; and SD memory.
The Center also provides student access to professional studio recording and editing equipment for use in the Ansin Building’s seventh floor Audio Studios and Suites. Digital video editing facilities are scheduled and supported by the staff in the Digital Production Labs (DPL).
