
THE JOURNALISM TELEVISION FACILITY (JTF)
The Emerson College Journalism Television Facility is located on the 6th floor of the Walker Building, 120 Boylston Street. It is designed for instruction and high-level news production. Facility users are exposed to linear and Avid non-linear editing systems, as well as a fully-automated control room and studio.
Facilities and Equipment

Newsroom
- Twenty one (21) Avid Newscutter XP workstations connected to approximately 12 Terabytes (12,000 Gigabytes) of storage on an Avid Unity server
- AP/ENPS software


Studio
- 25’x 25’ studio with a 9’ lighting grid
- Three (3) robotic cameras
- One (1) standard, manually operated Hitachi camera
- Three (3) permanent sets: News desk with either Newsroom or Skyline background, Interview set with either Emerson College or Skyline backdrop and the Chroma wall for weather and other chroma keyed backgrounds. The Chroma wall can also be covered with black curtains for a simple black backdrop.

Edit Suites

- Four (4) Avid Newscutter XP suites, with Seven (7) edit systems, connected to approximately 12 Terabytes (12,000 Gigabytes) of storage on an Avid Unity Server, Two (2) with voice-over recording capability. Two (2) Audio Edit Suites featuring Adobe Audition, Avid Newscutter XP, voice-over and telephone interview recording capability. All suites include AP/ENPS software.
- One (1) Apple Macintosh Final Cut Pro HD suite with Panasonic P2 card reader with local storage and voice-over recording capability.
Duplication, Format Transfer and Off-Air Capture (need picture of that room)
- DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, S-VHS, VHS and International Multi-Format VHS decks
- Five (5) Off-air cable tuners
- One (1) Avid Newscutter XP workstations connected to approximately 12 Terabytes (12,000 Gigabytes) of storage on an Avid Unity server

- One (1) Linear, cuts-only DVCPRO editing system
- CNN Newsource Subscription with Pathfire server (allows for use of "clean" satellite news feeds from Cable News Network Newsource affiliates)
BROADCAST JOURNALISM FIELD PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT
The Equipment Distribution Center (EDC) vends the broadcast journalism field production equipment to support the Journalism curriculum. Its inventory includes DVCPro, DVCProHD, MiniDV, DVCam camcorders and digital still cameras, tripods, flash memory, and mini disc recorders, microphones and lighting equipment.
