Strategic Priorities

ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage

ArtsEmerson: The World on Stage will be the guiding force in shaping the public performances and opportunities available at our two venues: the Paramount Center and the Cutler Majestic Theatre.

World-Class Facilities, World-Class Performances

ArtsEmerson will use performance spaces to increase the quality of the Boston theater scene and to further the College's reputation as a leader and tastemaker in performing arts and communication internationally.

ArtsEmerson plans to bring in performances from across the United States and abroad that normally would not be seen in the Boston—thereby adding to the cultural opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and the local community.

Emerson Arts Partners

Local arts institutions and individuals will partner with the College to hold multiyear residencies at the College, developing work that will be tied into the College's curriculum, and provide students and faculty with the opportunity to engage in the creative processes of some of the most distinguished and distinct artists working today.

ArtsEmerson will offer three different "streams" of public performances:

  • Smaller ensemble companies that feature younger emerging generations of artists will be brought in to showcase works that explore the definitions of "performance" as well as the relationships between audience and society
  • Established companies that represent the highest standards of work from a variety of cultures will perform on the College's larger stages such as the Paramount and the Cutler Majestic Theatre
  • Performances tailored for young people and families to highlight Emerson's legacy and excellence in theater and education

Historic Preservation

Planners and architects have done a careful job in restoring parts of the original building and incorporating them with parts of the new building. "Every nook and cranny is exciting," said Robert Orchard, Executive Director for the Arts. "It's been beautifully reimagined by the College."
