Student Life

GREETINGS From the Dean of Students

February 2008

Dear New Emersonian:

On behalf of the division of Student Affairs, I want to congratulate you on your acceptance to Emerson College. You are joining a bright and talented community of learners and educators that provides extraordinary pathways for intellectual, creative and cultural enrichment.  We look forward to the qualities and attributes that you will bring to the campus, and the substantive contributions we know you will add.

Emerson also is a community that takes great pride in the diversity of its student population and the importance and worth of every individual. In this regard, I invite your full participation to help us build a campus community that better understands, appreciates and celebrates our differences and commonalities. I hope you will help us continue to foster an environment where civility and caring for one another are valued and affirmed.

In anticipation of your arrival to campus, faculty, staff and current students are actively planning a variety of activities and programs to facilitate your transition to Emerson and the city of Boston. Recognizing that it is quite common for students entering a new community to encounter feelings of excitement, nervousness and uncertainty, I particularly want to encourage you to join us for the full Orientation program. We believe  that your participation and involvement in this experience will significantly ease your passage into the Emerson community. Make sure you periodically check out the Orientation website at www.emerson.edu/orientation for updates.

If your parents are planning to accompany you to Orientation and are in need of overnight accommodations, the College has arranged for a block of rooms at a discounted rate at the Courtyard by Marriott Tremont House Hotel (1-800-321-2211). Be sure to let the hotels know that you are with Emerson College in order to receive a discounted room rate. Of course, your parents are welcome to make arrangements to stay at any of Boston’s many fine hotels.
