One thing you know now that you wish you had known as a new student: Take some time for yourself. It's easy to get over-involved, so drink some tea, take a nap, and recharge! Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Attend every Orientation event you possibly can. Even though it may not apply directly to you, you'll meet so many other new students. What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: I call my parents once a day. It may sound dorky, but I like to know what's going on back home, and my parents like to know what's going on in Boston. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Keep your residence hall door open - you'll make many friends that way! Your message to the families of our new students: If you need any help at all throughout the Orientation program, seek out one of the many Orientation Leaders - they'll be glad to help! One thing you know now that you wish you had known as a new student: It's ok to be nervous! Everyone is! Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Go to anything and everything that interests you on the Orientation Schedule. Some of my memories from Orientation are my best! What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: TELEPHONE! I call my parents everyday. . . .some times more. Usually my mom says, "DJ, what is it now?!" What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Be yourself. Emerson is a great place with so many unique people. No matter who you are, you can find someone who gets you. Your message to the families of our new students: You've raised an amazing bunch of children, be proud, and let them go, despite how hard it will be. You'll see them soon! Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Go to all the social events with a positive attitude. You never know how many great people you might meet. What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: I-Chat, lots of facebook, emails, and the occasional long international calls. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Be open-minded. keep your door OPEN (literally! but not when you sleep). Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Meet as many people as you can and do not be afraid to introduce yourself first, because everyone is in the same boat. What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: I e-mail my family and close friends almost everyday, and when I have time I try to call as often as possible. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: When you are in a group of students during Orientation or in the classroom, be outgoing and share your own experiences because you will always be able to find someone with something in common with yourself, as well as differences you can learn about. Your message to the families of our new students: Emerson students are very involved and become extremely busy, especially during the first few weeks of school! This does not mean they are not homesick, but they will need space in order to adjust to living away from home. You in 3 words: Ebullient, Practical, Diligent. |

Favorite thing about Orientation: The Dating Doctor and HOORAY! One thing you know now that you wish you had known as a new student: That is is okay just to be YOU. Be yourself and new friends will find you. There is no need to feel the pressure to fit in because everyone at Emerson is unique and is able to find their own niche and core group of friends. Oh, and that college is not like the movies and TV shows make it out to be. . . it's better! Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Go to all of the activities, even if they seem lame or like they don't interest you, you never know what you could learn or who you could meet. What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: I make sure to call my family almost every day and I keep in touch with friends from high school over Facebook and try to arrange visits every month or so, depending on our schedules. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Branch out! Get out of your dorm and get involved on campus. Some of my best friends I have made are through organizations. Also, don't discount people in your classes. There are potential new friends everywhere. Just don't hesitate to put yourself out there and be friendly. The true friends will show themselves to you. Your message to the families of our new students: College is all about adjustment. It may take time for your new student to gain an appreciation for the college lifestyle, but they will be okay. Every new experience they encounter will make them stronger and Emerson is a perfect place for anyone who is ambitious and willing to make mistakes along the path to success. They will learn to love learning and will genuinely value your support through their time of adjustment. You in 3 words: Sweet, Sassy, Sophisticated. |

Favorite thing about Orientation: Hooray!, The Dating Doctor, the Intro Show / Movie, and the Welcome Center! One thing you know now that you wish you had known as a new student: Although there are over 65 recognized clubs and organizations on campus, it doesn't mean I need to be a member of all of them. Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Go to every event. You never know if you will meet your best friend, have a new and amazing experience or get some free food! What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: I call my mom every few days and of course Facebook my friends constantly. But taking the time to do these things is important and keeps me stable. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Be yourself and your true friends will stick by you in the end. Your message to the families of our new students: Emerson is an amazing experience and your student is in an amazing and unique community you won't find anywhere else. Favorite thing about Orientation: Meeting the Dating Doctor and all the new students. One thing you know now that you wish you had known as a new student: Go to all the orientation events! Your words of advice to a new Emerson student on making the most of their orientation experience: Students can apply for any position any year, and it's possible for us to get it. What do you do to stay connected to your friends and family: Visit them, bribe them with home-cooked meals and keep in regular touch through the net or phone calls. What advice can you give to new students on making new friends: Knock on every door on your floor and say hi to everyone during Orientation. That way it's not awkward to talk to them throughout your life at Emerson. Your message to the families of our new students: Your child is in good hands!
