Housing Selection Process

External Programs and Boston Campus Housing

Freshmen and Sophomores

Freshmen and sophomores attending an Emerson external program are required to live in on-campus housing (Boston) during the semester they are attending classes on the Boston campus. Because this is a condition of residency, no freshman or sophomore student participating in an external program needs to submit a $300 housing deposit.

Juniors

Juniors attending an Emerson external program will be given the option of either on-campus housing or living off campus during the semester they are attending classes on the Boston campus.

Any junior who would like to live on campus during the semester that he or she is not attending an external program will be required to submit a $300 housing deposit. Juniors will be contacted individually by the Office of Housing and Residence Life with more details regarding this option.

If you are attending an External Program in Fall 2014

You will not participate in the Housing Selection Process. You will be contacted by OHRL in September regarding your housing options for Spring 2015. During this September communication, you will have an opportunity to let the office know if you have a specific space in mind where you would like to live.

If you are attending an External Program in Spring 2015

You will participate in the Housing Selection Process. If you are a rising junior, you will need to submit a $300 housing deposit to participate.

If you are on a waitlist for an External Program and unsure you will be going

  • If you are a rising sophomore: you should still participate in Housing Selection, anticipating that you will be on the Boston campus for the full academic year.
    • If you get chosen to participate in an External Program for the spring, you will live in your selected room in the fall.
    • If you get chosen to participate in an External Program for the fall, you will forfeit your chosen space, but will have an opportunity to let OHRL know where you would like to live in the spring when the office communicates with all External Program participants in September.
  • If you are a rising junior: you can participate in the Rising Junior Housing Lottery if you wish to try to live on the Boston campus for the full academic year.
    • If you were offered housing and you get chosen to participate in an External Program for the spring, you will live in your selected room in the fall. If you were not offered housing and you are chosen to participate in an External Program, you may contact OHRL to discuss on-campus Boston housing options, depending on the availability.
    • If offered space in the Rising Junior Housing Lottery and you get selected to participate in an External Program for the fall, you will forfeit your selected on-campus space. However, whether you were offered a space in the Rising Junior Housing Lottery or not, you will have an opportunity to let OHRL know where you would like to live in the spring if you want to live on campus, when the office communicates with all External Program participants in September.
