Flu Shots Available - Winter 2013

Flu- Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) –Update for the Emerson Community 2-15-13

In January the city of Boston declared a Public Health Flu Alert. Although current influenza (flu) activity appears to be decreasing in the Boston area the CHW has seen an increase in student flu cases over the last week. .  We encourage all members of the Emerson community to obtain a flu shot and to practice proper cough & sneeze etiquette,  hand washing and hygiene measures  to minimize risk of infection.  Most importantly if you are demonstrating flu symptoms remain out of class, work and other social activities until you are fever free for 24 hours without use of fever lowering medication. This will help to decrease infecting others in the Emerson community.

The CHW has administered over 200 doses of flu vaccine this season and has a limited supply available for eligible students.  Immunization clinic dates and times can be found on Ecommon. The Flu FAQ on our website has been developed based on documents and guidance provided by the CDC, Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and Boston Public Health Commission (BPCH) as well as Emerson policy & procedure.

We encourage you to practice healthy habits and seek your partnership in combating this public health threat because this semester your health and wellness determines the health and wellness of the Emerson community.
