  • An Insider's View of the Arts: Vic Perillo Visits Emerson College

    Vic Perillo will be giving an inspirational talk on pursuing a career in acting and theater.

    Vic Perillo was a theatrical talent agent in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles where he owned the Victor Perillo Talent Agency. He represented child actor Gary Coleman (Different Strokes) and produced seven NBC Movies of the Week with him. In addition to Coleman, he placed and represented more than 12 actors for Daytime Television, including Kim Zimmer, three-time daytime Emmy winner.

    Mr. Perillo has conducted more than 400 lectures and workshops at universities, colleges, and conservatories in the past 40 years. He is also a regular yearly speaker at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

  • Columbia Publishing Course - Information Session

    Careers in publishing have always attracted people with a love of literature and language, a respect for the written word, and an inquiring mind. From editors and publicists to business managers and designers, and from legendary book publishing houses to glossy fashion magazines and cutting-edge websites, the publishing industry offers diverse opportunities for all.

    Join representatives from the Columbia Publishing Course to learn about the multitude of career options in book, magazine, and digital media publishing. The "Careers in Publishing" information session will offer an introduction to departments, companies, career trajectory, and what students can do NOW to prepare for the publishing job market.

    Attendees will also learn more about the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism's Columbia Publishing Course, an intensive introduction to all aspects of book, magazine, and digital media publishing, from evaluations of manuscripts to the sales and marketing of finished products. At CPC students learn directly from leaders in the industry--writers, editors, publishers, design directors, illustrators, advertising experts, and publicists. Geared to recent college graduates and culminating in a job fair, the course also includes extensive preparation for the job market. Recent graduates have landed at Random House, HarperCollins, Scholastic, Marie Claire, Glamour, DailyBeast.com, and NYmag.com.

    Boston Globe will provide an overview of their coop program -- a 6 month, full-time, paid position. Students can intern in various departments including: Business Pages, City Desk, Editorial Design, Sports, Living/Arts, Photography, Events Marketing, and more.

    The deadline for applications is March 1 (for the July–December program).
