Reference List
When creating a reference list, first make sure to ask before including someone’s name and contact information. Select a minimum of three references that will be able to speak to various aspects of your academic and professional experience, hopefully relevant to the position for which you apply. Unless obvious, be sure to explain your relationship to the reference person. Whenever you know that a company may call to check your references, consider sending your updated resume and a job description along to the individuals on your reference list. It is important to maintain strong communication with everyone so they are able to provide you with the best possible references.
