Service Learning Courses
Service learning courses enhance learning by combining traditional classroom instruction with a service experience based in the local community. Emerson offers a variety of courses that have a service learning component. Students should talk to their academic advisor or the course professor prior to registering, in order to find out which courses offer a service or community-based learning component.
The Office of SLCA houses a number of resources for faculty interested in teaching service learning courses, such as reflection assignments, service learning course design workbooks, and sample syllabi from different disciplines. See our Faculty Resources page for more information about teaching a service learning course.
Students, community members, and faculty interested in learning more about service learning (including an updated list of service learning courses) should send an e-mail to Jennifer_Greer@emerson.edu or call us at 617.824.8266.
See Hallmarks of Good Service for tips on how students can best prepare for a service learning assignment.
See our Forms page for service learning contracts and evaluations.
