EMERSON COLLEGE COMEDY SCHOLARSHIP - $1000

The EMERSON COLLEGE COMEDY SCHOLARSHIP was established at Emerson College in the Fall of 2006 with the help of numerous comic alumni who returned to help stage an unforgettable night of laughter: “30 Years of Comedy at Emerson College”.  Indeed, Emerson’s roots in all forms of comedy run deep, and the Emerson College Comedy Scholarship seeks to sustain that tradition of laughter and achievement. The second scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 school year.

Eligibility:

This merit-based scholarship will be awarded to an incoming senior who is in good academic standing and has demonstrated leadership and talent in the writing, performance or direction of comedy.

Prospective recipients must apply for consideration and present their comedy to a panel of judges. Work in stand-up, writing, writing & performing the comic monologue, and writing & directing comic scripts for film or television are eligible for consideration.

Selection:

A panel of judges will be comprised of faculty, staff and alumni led by the Dean of the School of the Arts. Stand-up and monologues will be performed live. Finished work (no work in progress will be considered) will be screened on DVD. Written work will be read in the same time period.

Timeline/ Deadline:

May 1, Performances (comics will be informed of time and location)
May 5, Recipient will be notified by the Dean
May 16, Recipient announced at the 28th Annual EVVY Awards (attendance not required)
Fall 2009, Funds will be applied to the student’s account

Process:

Applications (including required supporting materials) must be received by the Dean’s office by 5 PM, Friday 17, 2009. Written and filmed submissions must be included with applications.

It is recommended that applications be personally delivered by the applicant to the Dean’s office in Room 1306 in the Ansin Building (180 Tremont Street). Applications sent via postal service can be mailed to:

Notification:

The recipient will be notified by the Dean Nunes and an announcement made during the 28th Annual EVVY Awards.
