Hassan Ildari has written seven feature screenplays to date: Face of the Enemy, Sharkskin, Confessor: Assassins of Orlando Letelier, The Seamstress, Diary of a D-Girl, Come With Me, and My Ashes to the Wind. He went on to direct Face of the Enemy, which won festival prizes, was theatrically released domestically as well as internationally, and became a Turner Classics Movie and a Critic's Pick of the New York Times. He also directed Sharkskin, and, in 2014, Come With Me. In 2016 he will be directing My Ashes to the Wind. In addition, his other screenplays have been either optioned or are in active development. Confessor was developed at Belladonna Productions NY (Funny Games, Transamerica); The Seamstress has Academy Award winners Mercedes Ruehl and Olympia Dukakis, and Emmy Award winner Peter Coyote attached to play the lead roles, and Diary of a D-Girl is under option by Rowish Entertainment NY.
Before joining Emerson, Professor Ildari wrote, produced, and directed television for NBC/Bravo, PBS, A&E/The History Channel, and Discovery/TLC; headed the bi-coastal development and production company of Academy Award winning producer-director Arthur Hiller at Universal Studios; worked in the story departments of Columbia Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Touchstone Pictures, and Hollywood Pictures; was an assistant to director John Landis, and was Directing Fellow with director Walter Hill at Universal Studios.
Professor Ildari teaches undergraduate and graduate levels at the College, and is an active contributor to the academic life of the College. He was a principle member of the Presidential Academic Advisory Committee for the creation of Emerson Los Angeles (ELA), and an early advocate and active member of the Emerson College Comedy Committee, which created the College's current Comedy Minor, and, as of Fall 2016, Comedy Major, offering a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Comedy, a first in the nation.
