Courtney O'Connor teaches courses on directing, playwriting for youth, and languages of the stage. O'Connor has previously served as program director of Emerson's Summer Stage for High School Students, education director for Boston's Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and artistic director of Coyote Theatre, which is based at the Boston Center for the Arts. Through her work with the Tremont Street Project/Coyote Theatre Project, O'Connor has overseen the creation of more than 150 new 10-minute plays by at-risk youths from Boston.
O'Connor's directing credits include Buyer & Cellar, Red Hot Patriot, Stones in his Pockets, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (Associate Director, Elliot Norton Awards for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production) Red Herring, and The Miracle Worker at the Lyric Stage Company of Boston; Much Ado About Nothing and Two Gentlemen of Verona with the Commonwealth Shakespeare Intern Company; Macbeth and A Midsummer Nights Dream for Shakespeare Now!, a professional theatre company that brings live performances of the playwright's work to schools throughout southeastern New England; My Heart and My Flesh, The House of Yes, Sin, and This is Our Youth at Coyote Theatre; Be A Good Little Widow at AIM Stage, Blue Window at Brandeis University; Radium Girls at Suffolk University, the New Voices New Stories playwright's festival of new works at UMass Boston, and Dancing at Lughnasa, Big Love, Robin Hood, Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Long Christmas Dinner & Pullman Car Hiawatha, Picnic, The Women, and Holiday for Emerson Stage.
