We are the Black Diaspora

Emerson’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and GLBTQ Resources has organized the events for this year’s African American Heritage Month.

The month’s theme is “We are the Black Diaspora.” Through speeches, screenings, and live theater, presenters will explain the history of African natives worldwide and their increasing influence on global society today.

Here is a list of events:

  • Wednesday, January 23, 12:00–2:00 pm: Keith Boykin at the Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common.
  • Tuesday, February 5, 7:00–9:00 pm: John Bul Dau takes questions following the screening of God Grew Tired of Us at the Bright Family Screening Room.
  • Thursday, February 7, 7:00 pm: In Search of O, a theater production by actor Chrystee Pharris ’98, at the Cabaret.
  • Friday, February 8, 7:00 pm: Apron Full of Beans, a theater production, at the Cabaret.
  • Monday, February 11, 7:00 pm: Black Monologues, a theater production, at the Cabaret.
  • Thursday, February 14, 7:00 pm: Black Family Structure, a panel lecture and question-and-answer session, in the Multipurpose Room.
  • Thursday, February 21, 7:00 pm: The African Diaspora, a panel lecture and question-and-answer session, in the Multipurpose Room.
  • Sunday, February 24, 6:00 pm: Soul Full Experience, a soul food dinner and discussion, in the Cultural Center, Campus Center Room L156.
  • Tuesday, February 26, 7:00 pm: Don Lemon: Journalist, Author, Anchor, Activist, a lecture and question-and-answer session with the CNN anchor, at the Semel Theater.
