Please join the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies for a book celebration for Kristen J. Lieb, assistant professor in the Department of Marketing Communication, on her latest book, Gender, Branding and the Modern Music Industry (Routledge 2013).

The book provides a rare lens on the rigid packaging process that transforms female artists of various genres into pop stars, which focuses on the woman's body as her core asset and has resigned many artists to being short-term brands-positioning them to earn as much money as possible before burning out or aging ungracefully. The book explores the sociological forces that drive this, the industry that keeps it this way, and the ramifications on the artists' career cycles, among other topics.
