Bright Family Screening RoomArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents The Kids Are All Right. Nic and Jules are the average couple for most modern American families: raising two troubled teens in the suburbs of Southern California with life's normal quirks and oddities. When their kids, Joni and Laser, secretly track down the lesbian couple's donor father, each family member is forced to reexamine individual relationships with each other and redefine the unit as a whole. This contemporary, smart, relatable portrait of the American family was received with widespread acclaim, including two Academy Award nominations for Julianne Moore and Annette Bening in their roles as the mothers of this family. The star-studded cast also includes exceptional performances by Mark Ruffalo, Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson.

See artsemerson.org for ticket pricing informationArtsEmerson: The World on Stage presents Emergency. A slave ship has just mysteriously emerged in front of the Statue of Liberty, sending New York City into a whirl of emotion and self-examination. Daniel Beaty portrays a cast of 40 characters in this explosive and funny tour-de-force featuring slam poetry, multi-character transformation and song. Seen through the lens of a single family at the center of the maelstrom, Beaty delightfully teases out his tale with the colorful commentary of neighbors and bystanders. Through their responses to this surreal happening and their varied testimonies on identity and personal freedom, Emergency weaves a stirring commentary on what it is to be human and the longing to be free.
