ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents A Walk Into The Sea. Danny Williams was a talented young filmmaker and Andy Warhol's lover until his strange disappearance in 1966. In this deeply personal documentary his niece, director Esther Robinson, delves into the mystery of her uncle's alleged suicide and peels away the layers of the Warhol myth. Combined with interviews of surviving Warhol acolytes are never-before-seen 16-millimeter films of Williams' time at the Factory with footage that includes Edie Sedgwick, Paul Morrissey, the Velvet Underground and Warhol himself.

ArtsEmerson: The World on Stage presents Tales from Ovid. Tales from Ovid shapes the myths that have been the basis for countless contemporary stories: stories of transformation, of transcendent passion, of gods and mortals locked in combat until that entanglement combusts into a new state of being. In Ted Hughes' muscular and robust retelling, which was awarded the Whitbread Prize in 1997, these myths are explored and exploded outward, and embodied in a vibrant new adaptation.

  • Walk The Line

    11/16/12
    9:00 pm - 11:15 pm
    Paramount Center
    Bright Family Screening Room
    Free for Emerson Students

ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents Walk The Line. This biopic of the life and times of Johnny Cash is elevated by the commitment of lead actors Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, who did all their own singing in the film. Their scenes together exude a genuine chemistry rarely seen in Hollywood films. Phoenix perfectly captures Cash's demons as well as his passion for a life with June Carter. Witherspoon is an utter joy to watch, bringing charm and vulnerability to her portrait of Carter, which won her an Oscar.
