ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents In the Realms of the Unreal. After living a solitary and poverty-stricken life, all Henry Darger has to show for himself is a series of menial jobs and a 15,000-page novel. He has secretly passed the hours away constructing this epic saga of illustrated fantasy, heroism and drama fraught with religious imagery, but now the final moments of his life are spent in a hospital when his masterpiece is discovered. Atypical in its documentary style due to Darger's obscurity as a janitor with only three known photographs of him, Dakota Fanning narrates and Larry Pine voice-acts the role of Darger himself. Compiling interviews with neighbors and further discovering his other journalistic and autobiographical writings, viewers explore the mind and world of Henry Darger, The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion.

Syd has an eye for new talent, and Lucy sees an opportunity for a smart career move. Soon, the two are headed down a road that is fraught with peril—Syd loses her boyfriend, Lucy's girlfriend splits and the two develop an addiction to heroine alongside their affection for one another.
