MSNBC Interviews Jim Finn
Tim Pratt ’11
December 01, 2010
In light of North Korea’s recent attacks on South Korea, Emerson Visual and Media Arts faculty member Jim Finn was featured on MSNBC November 27 to offer his expertise on North Korean propaganda.
In the interview, Finn discussed how North Korea has been able to use the state ideology of “Juche,” or self-reliance, in its arts and propaganda to create a dictatorship-like society that gives the government control and isolates the public from outside countries by promoting Korean ideals.
Finn studied the subject while writing and directing The Juche Idea (2008), a film that explores how the North Korean film industry is used to create propaganda.
